NIYA NICOLE

Niya Petersen AKA Niya Nicole (Born 8/29/2000) is a singer/songwriter who started songwriting and performing at the age of 11. She was born into a musical family. Her father started producing music in the 80s. Her uncles also produce music. Also her older brother Nigel “Lil Legin” Petersen is a rap artist.

When she was in middle school, she wrote a song called, “Shut You Down”, and she performed it at her middle school’s talent show. The song was inspired by the issue of bullying.

She performed at PJ Bricks, and Stop The Violence between the years of 2011-2013. She also performed her first duet with her brother, Lil Legin at the Krane Theater for the Ron Alexander Show in 2011. And the Guns Down Life Up organization with her brother in Harlem and Brooklyn in the year of 2013.

She started recording her music at a local studio in the Bronx at the age of 13.

In November of 2015, she performed with her brother, at the All Stars Event in Manhattan and won first place. On April of 2015, she performed for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

On Feb 28, 2015, Niya Nicole came out with her first EP called “I Am Niya”. On March 9, 2015 Niya Nicole released a video for the song “My Year” featuring Lil Legin, her brother. After that, she released a video for her song, “Eleven,” on April 30, 2015.

On February 2, 2016, Niya Nicole released a video for a song called “No Role Modelz Remix”, a remix off of J Cole’s original. This video was the first video she shot inside her high school. On March 2, 2016, Niya released a video called, “Night in the Studio”.

In the summer of 2015, Niya Nicole performed at the International Music Festival in the Bronx, and Stop The Violence. Niya Nicole also performed for the First Annual Bronx Unsigned Artist Awards on March 19, 2016, and received the “Rising Star” Award.

On February 8th, 2017, Niya Nicole performed on Broadway for a Hamilton school project. On March 20, 2017, Niya Nicole performed at the 2nd annual Bronx Unsigned Artist awards.

On June 17, 2017, Niya Nicole performed at a carnival in New Jersey. On June 28, 2017, Niya Nicole performed at the Silhouette Lounge in the Bronx.

 On October 21, 2017, Niya Nicole performed at a domestic violence event in the Bronx.

December 2nd, 2017, Niya performed at the 7th annual Strut Your Stuff Talent contest for kids. On December 10, 2017, Niya Nicole performed at Harlem Knights.

March 24/April 14, 2018 Niya shot a music video for her new single, “Like Dih”.

April 28, 2018, Niya performed at Essentials Bar & Restaurant in the Bronx. She was the only R&B artist.

May 5, 2018, Niya performed at Ripley Grier Studios in Manhattan.

May 26th, 2018, she released her music video for her single, “Like Dih” and it currently has over 14,000 views on YouTube.

During the month of October in 2018, there was a challenge sweeping social media called the Right Back Challenge. “Right Back” is a single by Detroit singers Armon & Trey. Everyone on social media participated in the challenge either rapping or singing over the track’s instrumental. Niya Nicole was one of them. She released her remix to the song on SoundCloud and it now stands at 126 plays.

During the month of January 2019, she began working on her second project, her first mixtape. She also began collaborating with her manager, and they produce music together
